The first to come to the "New World" was Thomas Arnold from Dorsetshire England. He arrived in the
"New World" May 15,1635 on the ship the "Plain Joan" and settled in Watertown Mass where he married
Pheobe Parkhurst in 1640. All of there children incluing there son Eleazer Arnold b.June 17,1651 where born in Watertown Mass.
(Eleazer was my 7th great grandfather)About 1660 they moved to Rhode Island. They stayed in Rhode Island
until after the American Revolution (abt 1790) when some of them moved on to settel in New Yorks Mohawk Valley in the
counties of Herkimer and Chenango. About 1874 my great grandfather moved to Connecticut where the family stayed until my
father went in to the Army during WWII.
Some of the Arnolds that where in New York left in 1817 and moved on to settel part of Muskingum
County Ohio, From there they went on to Lucas County Iowa around the town of Chariton. From there we
can find them in New Mexcio were some of there descends live to day.
REVOLUTIONARY WAR SERVICE: My GGGG Grandfather Caleb Arnold along with his eight sons and three sons-in-law were all in the Revolutionary War. One brother named Othniel died from wounds he received at the battle of Bunker Hill. Othniel along with brothers Jabes, Oliver, Capt.Willam and my GGG Grandfather Edward who at 16 enlisted as a Drummer Boy where also at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Edward and his brothers fought in every major battle from Bunker Hill to Yorktown.
The following is from "The History of Herkimer" Co:
While strolling through the cemetery, north of the village,(Little Falls NY)taking notes from the memorials to the dead, my attention was arrested by a broad headstone of marble, tall and erect and transcribed with the affectionate testimonial of the wife, who had consigned to the grave the loved and cherished companion of her long and varied life.
Died on the 29th of October,1842 in the 83d year of his age, EDWARD ARNOLD His widow erected this humble stone, to commemorate his private worth, but his noble monuments are the battle fields of the American Revolution, in letters of blood. These shall perpetuate his public virtues when this tribute of a wife's affection shall have crumbled to dust, and no human hand can point out the spot where the hero sleeps. Edward's headstone stands to this day.
